Hamirpur, 01 November (HS). Lathmar Diwari dance is organized on the festival of Diwali, which is a special attraction for the people every year. This dance may be a little different from the Lathmar Holi of Barsana, Mathura, but its enthusiasm and thrill is exactly the same. In the wall dance, the artists dance to the beat of the dholak with big sticks in their hands and watching it feels like watching a battlefield. Like every year, this year also the Bundeli folk dance Diwari was witnessed on Diwali.
When this wall dance is performed in the village chaupalas on the occasion of Diwali, the spectators get goosebumps. In this dance the artists showcase their bravery and fighting skills. Social worker Sunil Tripathi says that this tradition has been going on since the time of Lord Krishna, when he raised Govardhan Mountain to save the people of Vraj. It is also known as Malhar Diwari, and people consider it a symbol of faith in their beloved Lord Krishna. Diwari dance is an integral part of Bundelkhandi culture and tradition.
Amazing gymnastic arts are also seen in this dance, which makes this art more special. People automatically start dancing to the beats of the drum played in a different way. When strong sticks are in the hands of the dancers, it becomes a symbol of the bravery and tradition of the entire Bundelkhand. Social worker Natthu Singh says that this tradition became prevalent in Bundelkhand since Lord Krishna had lifted Govardhan Mountain. This area of Bundelkhand is known as Veerbhoomi and the people here demonstrate their bravery with the help of sticks on every festival. Diwari dance is organized with great zeal and enthusiasm in Revan village, and the village is known throughout the region for this dance.
