Bumper recruitment for graduates in Railways: Notification released for 3,548 posts in RRB NTPC, basic pay and allowances up to ₹ 35,400; Know the complete application process


Indian Railways has given a big gift of happiness to the graduate youth across the country who are preparing for government jobs. Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has released the detailed recruitment notification for 3,548 vacancies at graduate level under Non-Technical Popular Categories i.e. NTPC. This recruitment was being awaited for a long time in various railway zones and divisions across the country including Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Candidates selected under this recruitment drive will be provided attractive pay scale, central government allowances and complete job security as per the 7th Central Pay Commission. The online application process has started from 8th October and eligible candidates can fill their form through the official portal till 6th November 2026.

As per the official notification released by RRB, a total of 3,548 posts have been divided into four major categories. The largest share in this recruitment is for Goods Train Manager (formerly Goods Guard), for which a total of 2,750 posts have been earmarked. Apart from this, appointments will be made on 371 posts of Senior Clerk-cum-Typist for administrative and office work of Railways. There are 300 posts of Junior Accounts Assistant-cum-Typist to handle the financial management in the Accounts Department. At the same time, recruitment has been done for 127 posts of Chief Commercial-cum-Ticket Supervisor related to commercial services and passenger management of Railways. Recruitment to all posts will be done at All India level through various Railway Recruitment Boards (like RRB Bilaspur, Ranchi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ajmer, Prayagraj etc.).

The salary structure in this recruitment of Railways has been kept quite attractive. The advertised posts are classified in Level 5 and Level 6 of the pay matrix. The post of Chief Commercial-cum-Ticket Supervisor comes under Pay Level-6, the initial basic pay of which is fixed at Rs 35,400 per month. Whereas the posts of Goods Train Manager, Senior Clerk-cum-Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant-cum-Typist come under Pay Level-5, whose initial basic pay is Rs 29,200 per month. In addition to the basic pay, the selected employees get the benefit of Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance and kilometer based running allowance for running staff as per the applicable rules of the Central Government. The starting gross salary including all allowances ranges from around Rs 48,000 to Rs 65,000 per month depending on the post and city of posting.

The minimum educational qualification for all these posts is Graduation Degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institute. Candidates whose final result has not been declared by the last date of application will not be eligible. Talking about age limit, the minimum age for General (UR) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates has been fixed at 18 years and maximum age at 33 years. Age will be calculated as on 1 January 2027. There is a provision for relaxation in upper age limit for reserved categories as per the rules of the Central Government, under which Other Backward Class (OBC – Non-Creamy Layer) candidates will be given 3 years relaxation and Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) candidates will be given 5 years relaxation. Disabled persons and ex-servicemen will also get additional relaxation as per the prescribed rules.

Selection for these posts in Railways will be done entirely on the basis of qualification and merit. Under the selection process, first stage computer based examination (CBT-1) will be conducted first. CBT-1 will have a total of 100 multiple choice questions, which will have 90 minutes to solve. It will include General Knowledge (40 questions), Mathematics (30 questions) and General Intelligence and Reasoning (30 questions). Candidates shortlisted on the basis of merit in CBT-1 will be called for the second stage (CBT-2), in which 120 questions will have to be answered in 90 minutes. The rule of negative marking of one-third (1/3) marks for each wrong answer in the examination will be applicable. After the written examinations, document verification and thorough medical examination of the candidates will be done. It is noteworthy that for the post of Goods Train Manager, medical standard ‘A-2’ is mandatory, in which strict criteria of visual ability have to be met.

For this recruitment, the application fee for unreserved and OBC category male candidates has been kept at Rs 500, out of which Rs 400 is refunded to the bank account on appearing in the first phase CBT examination. Whereas the fee for women, SC, ST, minority, EBC and disabled candidates is Rs 250, which is fully refunded after appearing in the examination. To apply, candidates should visit the official application portal of Railway Recruitment Board. rrbapply.gov.in will go on. Aadhaar verification will have to be completed through new registration on the portal. After this, after entering your personal and educational information, you will have to upload passport photo and signature in the prescribed size. Candidates can select only one RRB. The last date for application is 6th November 2026 till 11:59 pm, while online fee payment can be done till 8th November. The correction window will be opened from 9 to 18 November 2026 for amendments in the form.
