The news of a very big and sensational administrative action is coming out from Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh, which has created a stir among the local land mafias and illegal encroachers. The administration has now completely tightened the noose against the people who have been in illegal occupation of the precious land of Arya Samaj Mandir located in Sher Khan Sarai area of Sambhal district, whose current market value is estimated at around Rs 50 crore for the last 53 long years. The SDM Court has given a historic and strict verdict in this case and has given clear instructions to remove illegal houses and a tomb built on the land. After a long and complex judicial process lasting almost a year, the court has completely upheld the old consolidation records, struck off the names of illegal occupants from the revenue records and passed an order to officially restore this entire land in the name of Arya Samaj Mandir and Gram Samaj. The administration has warned all the illegal encroachers that if they do not remove their encroachments themselves, then very soon the illegal constructions will be razed to the ground through bulldozer action.
Illegal occupation of more than five bighas of valuable land was going on in Sher Khan Sarai area.
This entire matter is related to Sher Khan Sarai area of Sambhal district, where the highly valuable land of more than five bighas registered in the name of Arya Samaj Temple, not only worth Rs 500 crore but Rs 50 crore, was encroached upon in a planned manner for the last several decades. This case started last year in December 2025, when Santosh Kumar, a resident of Mangalpura, Sarayatrin and District Vice President of Arya Pratinidhi Sabha, had filed a formal suit in the SDM Court, raising his voice against this entire scam. On the basis of his complaint, when Tehsildar Dhirendra Kumar Singh conducted an in-depth administrative and revenue investigation into the matter, shocking facts came to light. The investigation clearly proved that during the consolidation process that took place around the year 1960, the land concerned was officially registered in the name of the Arya Samaj Temple, and the legal responsibility for the management and maintenance of this temple property was handed over to the ex-officio village head.
The temple land was sold in collusion with the village head, eight to ten houses and the tomb were standing.
The Revenue Investigation Report made a sensational revelation that with the passage of time, some local land mafia and influential people allegedly entered into illegal collusion with the then village head and started illegally selling large portions of this sacred and public land registered in the name of Arya Samaj Temple among themselves. After this illegal purchase and sale, the process of unauthorized occupation of the land started from around the year 1973 and gradually the buyers started erecting big permanent houses there. A detailed investigation by the Tehsil administration also revealed that not only eight to ten illegal pucca houses were built on a portion of this valuable land having an area of more than five bighas, but a tomb was also constructed there. Due to such illegal encroachment for the past several decades, the appearance of this valuable property of the temple had completely changed, on which now full preparations have been made to take the administrative hammer.
Historic decision of SDM Court: Old consolidation records made the basis
Hearing was going on continuously for the last one year in the SDM Court of Sambhal regarding the ownership and illegal occupation of this land. After listening to the arguments of the lawyers of both the parties and thoroughly examining all the old revenue documents, SDM Vikas Chandra gave his final and very important decision on September 5. In its decision, the court considered the old consolidation records of the year 1960 as completely valid and correct basis. On the basis of this, the court passed an order to cancel with immediate effect all the fake and illegal names of the people occupying the land. Besides, instructions were also given that the names of ‘Mandir Arya Samaj’ and ‘Ehtmam Pradhan Gram Samaj’ should be duly recorded on this entire land in the revenue records. This clear and strict order of the court has completely foiled all the legal maneuvers of the illegal encroachers and has paved the way for the Arya Samaj organization to get back its ancestral property.
Administrative staff inspected the spot, gave strict warning to illegal occupants
Just the next day after the court pronounced its verdict, i.e. on Monday, Sambhal Tehsildar Dhirendra Kumar Singh reached the disputed site at Sher Khan Sarai with heavy police force and Revenue Department officials. The officials reached the spot and inspected the entire land closely and took stock of the condition of the houses and the tomb built there. While talking to the media and local people after the inspection, the Tehsildar said in clear words that this entire land has now officially come under the management of the village society. The administration has issued a strict warning to all the 10 house owners and occupants present on the spot, asking them to remove their illegal encroachments and constructions without any delay. If the encroachment is not removed voluntarily within the stipulated time limit, the administration will pass eviction orders through legal process and then all these illegal constructions will be completely demolished by running bulldozers in the presence of heavy police force.
Wave of happiness among local people and representatives of Arya Samaj, panic among land mafias
After this strict and historic decision of the SDM Court, there has been a wave of immense happiness among the local Arya Samaj workers, officials and elite citizens of the area. District Vice President of Arya Pratinidhi Sabha, Santosh Kumar, who had initiated this long legal battle, praised this step of the administration and said that finally the truth has won and the way has been cleared to free the property of religion and society from the clutches of land mafia. On the other hand, as soon as the rumor of this administrative action started, there has been a huge panic among all the people of Sambhal area and the land mafia who have illegally occupied the government and religious properties. This stance of the administration clearly shows that as per the policy of the Uttar Pradesh government, the policy of zero tolerance against the illegal encroachers on government and public properties is being implemented with full strictness, and in the coming days, major action of bulldozers can be seen at this place.
