BSE SME IPO index hits new record high of 1,16,218

Major indices of the Indian stock market closed with losses today following selling in leading metal and IT stocks amid slowdown in Asian markets. Unlike large cap stocks, mid cap and small cap stocks gained momentum and the SME IPO index hit a new record high today. Ahead of the US Federal Reserve meeting, the market remained bearish amid a slowdown in commodity prices in the world markets.

After opening 133 points lower, Sensex hit a high of 82,116 and a low of 81,551 today amid volatile intraday conditions. In this way, after a total fluctuation of 565 points, the Sensex fell by 384 points or 0.47 percent and closed at the level of 81,748. Nifty also opened 15 points lower today and made an intra-day high of 24,781 and low of 24,601. In this way, after a total fluctuation of 180 points, Nifty fell by 100 points or 0.40 percent and closed at 24,668. Unlike large cap, mid cap and small cap stocks remained bullish today. At the end of the day, the BSE Midcap index closed 350 points or 0.73 per cent higher at 48,126, while the BSE Small Cap index closed 270 points or 0.47 per cent higher at 57,227.

SME IPO shares witnessed a strong rise today. The BSE SME IPO index hit a new record high of 1,16,218 during the day today, up 1,227 points from the previous record high of 1,14,991. The index also ended the day up 1,400 points or 1.23 per cent at 1,15,187, its highest ever level. The index fluctuated by 2,276 points during the day. Of the total 4,240 shares traded on BSE today, 2,276 shares rose, 1,869 shares fell and 95 shares closed flat.

BSE’s m cap today is Rs. 460.06 lakh crore or $5.42 trillion, which was Friday’s Rs. 459.42 lakh crore from the level of Rs. An increase of Rs 64,000 crore is visible. Today, 6 out of 30 Sensex stocks and 9 out of 50 Nifty stocks closed with gains. Dr. Reddy’s Lab gained 1.74 per cent and IndusInd Bank rose 1.28 per cent, while Titan declined 2.04 per cent. Of the 14 sector indices on Nifty, nine closed higher and five closed lower. Nifty Realty rose by 3.10 per cent and Media by 1.45 per cent, while Nifty IT fell by 0.74 per cent and Metal by 0.97 per cent.

FII’s Rs. Net sales of Rs 278 crore

FIIA traded in the Indian stock market today at Rs. 278 crore net sales, while DII also reported net sales of Rs. Net sales of Rs 234 crore. With this, the figure of net borrowing by FIA in December fell to Rs 2.5 crore. 11,428 crore, while the net borrowing figure by DIIA fell to Rs. 4,438 crores.

Volatility index increased by 7.41 percent

Today the volatility index increased by 7.41 percent and again crossed 14 and reached the level of 14.2. At one time during intraday this index had increased by 10.8 percent to the level of 14.47. According to experts, the volatility index increased so much because many central banks of the world are about to announce their monetary policies and some segments of the market can sell off at any time and turn bearish.
