Khunti, August 3 (HS). Police has arrested five accused of smuggling while busting a brown sugar factory in Hesal village of Angada police station area of Ranchi. Along with this, two and a half kilograms of brown sugar, more than six and a half kilograms of opium, cash worth 15 lakh 14 hundred rupees, five mobiles, one Creta car (JH 01EK-6290), two machines used for making brown sugar, gas stove, gas cylinder and other items in large quantities have been recovered. The estimated value of the recovered brown sugar and opium is five crore 29 lakh rupees.
This information was given by Khunti SDPO Varun Rajak in a press conference held in his office room on Saturday evening. The SDPO said that the arrested accused include Sanika Pahan (27) of Bichagutu village under Maranghada police station in Khunti, Tulshwar Kumar (26) of Nagwa village under Itkhori police station in Chatra district, Virendra Kumar Dangi (28), Ravi Dangi and Umesh Kumar Dangi alias Sajan Kumar (24) of Jokat village under Chauparan police station in Hazaribagh district.
The SDPO said that on the basis of a secret information received by the Superintendent of Police on the night of August 2, the accused Tuleshwar Kumar, Virendra Kumar Dangi and Umesh Kumar Dangi along with Sanika Pahan who had come to buy and sell opium in a Creta car were ambushed near the village of Hunt on the Khunti-Tamar main road and were caught. A large amount of opium, brown sugar, cash and other items were recovered from the car on the spot. On interrogating the accused in this regard, information was received about making brown sugar from opium in Hesal village of Angada police station area of Ranchi, then the police took immediate action and raided Hesal village and unearthed the brown sugar factory.
Based on the statements of the four arrested accused, another accused named Ravi Dangi was arrested from his house in Nagwa of Itkhori police station. The arrested accused told the police that for the past few months, brown sugar was being made from opium in Hesal village. For this, opium was purchased from places like Khunti, Tamar, Chatra etc.
The raiding team constituted under the leadership of Khunti SDPO included Arki Police Station incharge Mukesh Kumar Yadav, Arki Police Station SI Kundan Kumar, Jai Kumar, Rajiv Kumar Turi and Manish Kumar, constable Hafiz Ansari and armed forces personnel.
