Keir Starmer's Labor Party has won a landslide victory in the UK general election. The Labor Party has returned to power after being in opposition for 14 years. Gujarati-origin Shivani Raja was much talked about in this election. Shivani Raja has won a historic victory for the Conservative Party on the Leicester East seat. The Labor Party's 37-year dominance on this seat has collapsed. She contested the election against Rajesh Agarwal of Indian origin. Shivani Raja got 14526 votes in the election. She defeated former Deputy Mayor of London Rajesh Aggarwal. Who got 10100 votes. This victory was also important because Leicester East has been a stronghold of the Labour Party since 1987. Shivani's victory gave the Tories a seat in the constituency for the first time in 37 years.
Apart from Shivani Raja, 27 other MPs of Indian origin have been elected to the House of Commons in the general elections held on 4 July in Britain. Amidst all this, hundreds of newly elected MPs reached the Parliament enthusiastically after the Labour Party came to power in the UK elections. The new House of Commons has the highest number of women elected so far, 263. Which is about 40 percent of the total number, in which the highest number of 90 black MPs are there.
