New Delhi, August 20 (HS). Commander of the Brazilian Navy, Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen, who is on a visit to India, met Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi in New Delhi on Wednesday and discussed various aspects including operational engagement, technical cooperation and training. He was welcomed with a ceremonial guard of honor at the South Block lawn.
Commander Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen arrived on an official visit to India on 19 August and will stay till 24 August. The visit is aimed at enhancing maritime cooperation between the two countries and demonstrating the commitment of like-minded navies to cooperate on shared challenges in maritime security. The Commander of the Brazilian Navy met Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi in New Delhi today.
The Indian Navy cooperates with the Brazilian Navy through various initiatives, including operational interactions, training cooperation and other maritime avenues. The two navies have also been interacting at multilateral forums such as MILAN and India-Brazil-South Africa Maritime (IBSAMAR). Bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries is conducted through the Joint Defence Committee. As part of his official engagements, the Brazilian Navy Commander is also scheduled to meet the Defence Secretary, National Maritime Security Coordinator and Vice Army Chief in Delhi.
During this visit, Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen will also visit the Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram and interact with various defence industry representatives. The Brazilian Navy Commander will also visit Mumbai where he will interact with the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command and visit indigenous warships and submarines, Naval Dockyard and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.
