India's young boxer Nishand Dev qualified for this year's Paris Olympics by reaching the semi-finals of the Boxing Olympic Qualifiers in the 71 kg weight category. He became the first boxer from India to secure a Paris Games quota. Nishant, a World Championship bronze medallist who narrowly missed out on an Olympic ticket in the previous qualifiers, defeated Moldova's Vasile Sabotari 5-0 in the quarter-finals. In this way, India has secured its fourth Olympic quota in boxing. Before Nishant, women boxers Nikhat Zareen (50 kg), Preeti Pawar (54 kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg) have qualified for the Paris Games. Five quotas were up for grabs in the men's 71 kg category. Earlier, Ankushita Boro lost to Agnes Alexiason with a score of 2-3, dashing India's hopes of securing a quota in the women's 60 kg category.
