Srinagar, July 19 (HS). The army said on Friday that both the terrorists killed in an encounter on the Line of Control in Keran sector of Kupwara district are foreigners. The defense spokesperson said in the statement that on July 17, a credible input was received from the Jammu and Kashmir Police. This was further confirmed by intelligence agencies that a group of foreign terrorists is likely to infiltrate through the Keran sector.
According to the spokesperson, on July 18, at about 12:30 pm, alert troops observed the movement of two terrorists among the dense trees on their side of the Line of Control. When the infiltrating terrorists were challenged, they opened fire and a fierce encounter ensued. During the encounter, two hardcore foreign terrorists were killed and weapons, war material and a Pakistani identity card were recovered.
The spokesperson said this successful intelligence-based operation is another example of close synergy between the Indian Army, BSF and JKP. He said this was the third successful anti-infiltration operation along the LoC in the last few weeks and it underlines the Indian Army's unwavering commitment to a strong anti-infiltration stance to maintain the sanctity of the LoC and peace in the Kashmir Valley.
