Mumbai, 4 December (Hindustan Reporter). On the first day of Tennis Premier League (TPL) Season 6, many excellent and exciting matches were played at the Cricket Club of India, Mumbai, in which players like Rohan Bopanna showed a brilliant game for the fans. The matches were played on charcoal colored courts and all eight teams took part on Tuesday. Rajasthan Rangers, Hyderabad Strikers, Yash Mumbai Eagles and Chennai Smashers registered impressive wins at the end of an exciting day of tennis.
The first match of the season began between Rajasthan Rangers and Gujarat Panthers, with Christina Dinu taking on Ekaterina Kazionova in the women’s singles category. Christina Dinu won the first game in a hard-fought match with a score of 14-11. Arthur Ferry of Rajasthan Rangers defeated Sumit Nagal of Gujarat Panthers by the same score (14-11) in men’s singles.
Rajasthan Rangers continued their winning streak in the mixed doubles category as Rohan Bopanna and Christina Dinu defeated Vijay Sundar Prashant and Ekaterina Kazinova with a score of 14-11. In the men’s doubles, the pair of Rohan Bopanna and Arthur Ferry defeated Sumit Nagal and Vijay Sundar Prashant with a score of 15-10, as Rajasthan Rangers won the game 57-43.
The second match was played on the first day between Hyderabad Strikers and Bengal Wizards. Harriet Dart and Kamila Rakhimova won the women’s singles 18–7. In the men’s singles category, Benjamin Lock gave a tough fight against Nicky Pooncha and won with a score of 16-9.
In the mixed doubles category, Harriet Dart and Vishnu Vinod faced Kamila Rakhimova and Sriram Balaji. Bengal Wizards won the thrilling match with the score of 13-12. In the men’s doubles category, Nikki Poonacha and Sriram Balaji defeated Benjamin Lock and Vishnu Vinod with a score of 14-11, but Hyderabad Strikers won the match 57-43.
In the third match of the day, Punjab Patriots and Yash Mumbai Eagles were face to face. In women’s singles, Elena Avanesyan won against Zeynep Sonmez in a thrilling match with a score of 13-12. In men’s singles, Karan Singh of Yash Mumbai Eagles won against Mukund Sasikumar of Punjab Patriots by the score of 18-7.
Punjab Patriots’ Saket Myneni and Alina Avanesyan won 13-12 in a tough match against Jeevan Nedunchejian and Zeynep Sonmez in the mixed doubles category. In another close match in the men’s doubles category, Saketh Myneni and Mukund Sasikumar faced Jeevan Nedunchejian and Karan Singh. Yash Mumbai Eagles pair won the game 13-12 and won the match with the score of 55-45.
In the final match of the day, Bengaluru SG Pipers and Chennai Smashers played the lead. Connie Perrin of Chennai Smashers won the women’s singles game against Gabriella Natesan of Bengaluru SG Pipers with a score of 13-12. It was also another close match in the men’s singles, where Hugo Gaston won against Bernabé Zapata with a score of 13–12.
Chennai Smashers continued their dominance as the pair of Connie Perrin and Ritwik Choudhary Bolipalli won 17-8 against Anirudh Chandrasekhar and Gabriella Knutson.
In the final game of the day, Bengaluru SG Pipers won the men’s doubles category. Anirudh Chandrasekhar and Bernabe Zapata won 14-11 against Ritwik Choudhary Bolipalli and Hugo Gaston. However, Chennai Smashers still won the match with a score of 54–46.
After a thrilling encounter on the first day, Hyderabad Strikers and Rajasthan Rangers are on top of the table with 57 points each. Yash Mumbai Eagles are in third place with 55 points, while Chennai Smashers are in fourth place with 54 points. After them, Bengaluru SG Pipers and Punjab Patriots are tied with 45 points. To complete the league standings, Bengal Wizards and Gujarat Panthers were tied with 43 points each.
