Bombay High Court: Calling wife 'second hand' proved costly for husband, husband will have to pay Rs 3 crore compensation; Know what happened during the honeymoon

Sexual harassment allegations: A man living in America has been ordered by the Bombay High Court to pay Rs 3 crore as compensation to his wife. Husband calls his wife 'second hand' on honeymoon. The court said, 'The husband had also beaten his wife and now both are living separately from each other.'

Married in Mumbai in 1994,
The husband and wife are American citizens. They got married on 3 January 1994 in Mumbai. In the year 2005 he shifted to Mumbai. Around the year 2014, the husband went to America. Also, in the year 2017, he also filed a divorce petition. After this the wife filed an application in the Mumbai Magistrate Court under the Domestic Violence Act.

Husband accuses wife of illicit relationship
It is alleged that when the couple went to Nepal for honeymoon, the husband called her 'second hand'. Because the woman's first engagement was broken. The husband had objections to his wife's character. The husband did not let her sleep at night until the woman confessed to the illicit relationship.

Husband had tried to kill me
Hila alleges that her husband tried to kill her by suffocating her with a pillow in 2008, after which she went to her mother's house. She also accused her husband of marrying another woman during their marriage.

Trial court ruled in favor of wife
In January 2023, the trial court ruled in favor of the wife and ordered the husband to pay compensation of Rs 3 crore. Further, the court stipulated that the wife should be given a residential space of at least 1,000 square feet in Dadar or a monthly rent of Rs 75,000. The husband was also ordered to return all the wife's jewelery and pay a monthly maintenance allowance of Rs 1,50,000. After this the husband challenged the decision of the trial court in the Bombay High Court, which the court considered unacceptable and upheld the decision of the trial court.
