Fought for Lok Sabha in 1992
After moving away from films in 1990, superstar Rajesh Khanna entered politics. In 1992, Rajiv Gandhi gave him ticket from New Delhi Lok Sabha seat. He challenged BJP's Lal Krishna Advani. Rajesh Khanna had to face defeat, but Advani also contested from Gandhinagar. In such a situation, he vacated the New Delhi seat and Rajesh Khanna got another chance in the by-election. Despite the defeat, Rajesh Khanna got a lot of support. For this reason he contested elections again from the same seat.
Friendship broke in elections
In the by-election, BJP gave ticket to Shatrughan Sinha against Rajesh Khanna. This made Rajesh Khanna angry and there was a rift in his friendship with Shatrughan. Rajesh Khanna won the by-election and remained MP from New Delhi till 1996. In 1996, he lost to Jagmohan by more than 50 thousand votes. People voted for Jagmohan wholeheartedly. After this, Rajesh became disillusioned with politics and moved away from it.
