Amitabh Bachchan honored with 'Lata Dinanath Mangeshkar Award'
Actor Amitabh Bachchan was given the 'Lata Dinanath Mangeshkar Award' on 24 April. He received the award on the memorial day of his father, theater-music legend and Mangeshkar's brother Dinanath Mangeshkar. Amitabh Bachchan gave life to those characters with his brilliant acting in films like 'Zanjeer', 'Deewar', 'Sholay', 'Chupke-Chupke', 'Mohabbatein' and 'Piku'. The megastar said that he is feeling honored to receive this award today.
Amitabh Bachchan apologizes to Lata Mangeshkar
While receiving the award he said, 'I never considered myself worthy of such an award but Hridaynath (Mangeshkar) ji worked very hard to bring me here. Last year also he had invited me for this function. He further said, 'Hridaynath ji, I apologize to you for the last time. Then I told you that I am unwell. I was healthy but did not want to come here. This year I had no excuse so I had to come here.
Lataji was the eldest of the 5 Mangeshkar siblings who died in the year 2022. The award was established by the family and trust of Sur Samragini in her memory after her death. Singer Usha Mangeshkar, the third among the Mangeshkar siblings, presented the award to Bachchan. Earlier, this award was to be given to Mangeshkar's other sister and famous singer Asha Bhosle, but due to ill health she could not attend the program.
Mangeshkar's youngest brother and musician Hridaynath Mangeshkar presides over the ceremony every year. Stars like Padmini Kolhapuri, Randeep Hooda, AR Rahman and Abhishek Bachchan also attended the event.
