At the beginning of Bohag Bihu, people wake up early in the morning and prepare a paste of turmeric and raw urad dal. People of Assam apply this paste on their body and take bath. After this people go to seek blessings of their elders.

Delicious dishes are also prepared in Bihu. On this occasion, there is a tradition of eating Til Laru, Pitha, Murir Laru, Ghila Pitha and Poka Mithoi. In this week-long festival, people also make rangoli on different days. In the evening, women apply henna and sing folk songs. Men and women also play drums during this festival. It is believed that Lord Indra is pleased and blesses a good harvest by raining.
