Bihu is a traditional festival of Assam. It is celebrated 3 times a year. Bohag Bihu is celebrated with great pomp in Assam in the month of Vaishakh according to the Hindi calendar. This festival is related to the harvesting of crops. In this, God is thanked for the good harvest of the farmers. According to religious belief, this is a festival dedicated to the fire god. It is noteworthy that Magh Bihu is celebrated at the beginning of the year in the month of January or Magh. After this, Bohag Bihu is celebrated in April and Kartik i.e. Kati Bihu is celebrated in October-November. It is celebrated from 14-20 April.

How is Bohag Bihu celebrated?
Bohag Bihu is a long festival lasting 7 days. The special thing about this festival is that along with family members, domestic animals also participate in it. On the first day of Bohag Bihu, people wake up early and make ubtan from turmeric and raw urad dal paste. Take bath with the help of this paste. After this people take blessings of the elders of their house.
A special dish is prepared
Special types of dishes are also prepared in Bihu. On this occasion, there is a tradition of making Til Laru, Pitha, Murir Laru, Ghila Pitha, Poka Mithoi. In this week-long festival, people make rangoli on different days. In the evening women apply mehndi and sing folk songs. Women and men also play drums during this festival. It is believed that this pleases Lord Indra and gives the blessing of good rains and a good harvest.
