BMC Asst. Engineer caught taking bribe of Rs 3 lakh

Mumbai: Mumbai’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has charged the assistant city engineer of E ward with Rs. He was arrested for taking a bribe of Rs 3 lakh.

According to details, the contractor sought approval for the public toilet construction project under the payment and utilization scheme of the municipality. Which is managed by the Solid Waste Management Department.

According to ACB officials, the complainant has been involved in municipal contracts for construction and maintenance of toilets for the last twenty-five years. So he consulted Dr. in the E ward of the Municipal Corporation of Byculla. Toilet construction projects near Babasaheb Ambedkar Road and Ray Road Railway Station.

In which Bagwe, an assistant engineer in the solid waste management department, allegedly paid Rs. A demand of Rs 10 lakh was made. When the contractor expressed his inability to pay such a huge amount, Bagwe reduced the bribe amount to Rs 500. Work worth Rs 6 lakh had been done.

After this incident the contractor lodged a complaint with the ACB. Based on the complaint, ACB officials laid a trap in E Ward and his cabin in Bagaveni. A bribe of Rs 3 lakh was caught red handed.
