News India Live, Digital Desk: The 19th season of the Indian Premier League has started, but the players’ jerseys are being discussed more than their performance on the field. Cricket lovers say that if the names of the players are not written, it becomes difficult to identify which team is playing. Blue and red – these are two colors that IPL franchises are not losing their fascination with. This year too, 6 out of 10 teams are revolving around these colors, due to which fans are now calling it ‘creativity famine’.
Blue and red ‘net’: Which team in which situation?
If we analyze the jerseys of IPL 2026, the repetition of colors is clearly visible:
Blue dominance: Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) have retained their signature ‘Navy Blue’. Whereas Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have also chosen the combination of blue and red.
Red rust: Punjab Kings (PBKS) are in their traditional red jersey, while RCB have used the blue shade along with red and black this year.
Teams that stood out: Chennai Super Kings (yellow), Sunrisers Hyderabad (orange), Kolkata Knight Riders (violet) and Rajasthan Royals (pink) are the only teams that have a distinct and clear identity of their own.
Why don’t teams change their jerseys? 3 main reasons
According to the experts and designers who designed Team India’s jersey, there are many practical challenges behind it:
Pressure from sponsors: On an average, there are logos of 6 to 7 sponsors on an IPL jersey. Every brand wants its logo to be seen in its original color, due to which the original design of the jersey gets suppressed and it starts looking like an ‘advertisement board’.
Broadcasting needs: Some colors (like black or dark gray) don’t look very good on the TV. Broadcasters demand colors that ‘pop out’ on the screen and are clearly visible to viewers. Blue and red colors are considered the safest in this case.
Fear of Brand Identity: The franchise fears that if they suddenly change their colors, their brand connection with the fans may weaken. This is why they focus only on changing the ‘pattern’ rather than making major changes.
Fans demand: There should be changes like ‘The Hundred’ and ‘BBL’
Fans on social media are citing the example of England’s ‘The Hundred’ and Australia’s ‘Big Bash League’ (BBL), where each team has completely different and vibrant colours. Fans say that IPL should now step out of the safe circle of ‘golden lines’ and ‘blue-red’ and experiment with something new and bold.
