Family distrust and suspicion of illicit relations have once again pushed a happy family into the darkness of crime. The long-running rift between husband and wife turned into a bloody conflict when, as the dispute escalated, the husband lost his mental balance and fatally attacked his own wife with a sharp shaving blade kept in the house. The accused, blinded by anger, gave several deep blows with a blade on the woman’s face, neck and hands, due to which she fell on the floor bleeding. Hearing the woman’s painful screams, nearby people and neighbors reached the spot, who intervened and saved the woman’s life and immediately informed the police. As soon as information about the incident was received, the PRV team of the local police station reached the spot and took the seriously injured victim to the nearest Community Health Center (CHC), from where after first aid, she was referred to the district hospital in view of her critical condition. The police quickly laid siege and arrested the accused husband from the spot who was trying to escape after committing the crime.
Preliminary police investigation and interrogation of neighbors have revealed that relations between the couple were not normal for the last few months. The husband constantly suspected that his wife was having an extramarital affair with another person. There used to be heated arguments and abuses between the two on this issue every day. Family members and local elite people had tried many times in the past to bring about reconciliation between the two, but the poison of distrust in the husband’s mind was not showing any signs of diminishing.
Even on the day of the incident, late in the evening, an altercation started again between the two regarding the same issue. The matter escalated so much that a heated argument broke out between both the parties. The husband became enraged when the wife denied the allegations and protested. In a fit of rage, he picked up the shaving blade kept in the room and suddenly pounced on his wife. Before the victim could recover, the accused attacked her several times on her face and neck. Due to this sudden bloody attack, there was a scream in the room and the floor turned red with blood.
At the time of the incident, people living nearby immediately took action after hearing the sounds of screaming and crying coming from inside the house. When the neighbors opened the door of the house and saw the horrifying scene inside, they were shocked. The woman was writhing on the ground in a blood soaked condition and the accused husband was standing there with a blood stained blade in his hand. Without wasting time, people surrounded the accused and controlled him and immediately informed dial-112 police emergency service about the incident.
The local police team showed promptness and reached the spot within a few minutes. Policemen immediately took the injured woman to the hospital with the help of an ambulance. According to doctors, the woman suffered deep blade cuts on her face and neck, due to which she had to undergo several stitches. The woman’s condition was worrying due to excessive bleeding, but due to timely medical help, her condition is now said to be out of danger. The hospital administration has conducted medical examination of the woman and submitted the report to the police.
In relation to the incident, on the basis of the complaint filed by the victim’s mother’s side and the statements of the woman, the police have registered an FIR against the accused husband under serious sections. Under the new provisions of law and order, legal action has been taken against the accused under sections of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS):

Deadly assault and assault with a deadly weapon: A case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS (equivalent to sections 307 and 324/326 of the former IPC) on charges of causing grievous hurt by sharp weapon or blade.

Domestic Violence and Harassment: Section 85 of BNS (formerly IPC 498A) has also been included under cruelty and physical torture in marital relations.

Recovery of weapons: The forensic team inspected the spot and collected the blood-stained shaving blade used in the crime and blood samples from the floor as evidence.
While giving a statement to the media, the Regional Police Officer (CO) clarified that this violent step was taken due to family dispute. The accused has been duly arrested and is being produced before the competent court and sent to jail in judicial custody. A concrete charge sheet will be prepared in the case and the court will be advocated for giving strict punishment to the accused.
This incident exposes the bitter truth of the society where marital relationships are taking the form of violent crimes due to distrust, mental stress and lack of communication. Psychiatrists and sociologists believe that if mistrust or doubt arises about any matter in married life, then instead of giving it a violent form, it should be resolved through senior family members, marriage counselors or legal forums. A momentary step taken in anger not only puts the life of the other person in danger, but also completely ruins the life of the attacker himself and the future of the children.
