Jagdalpur/Raipur, 06 August (HS). Four employees have been burnt due to a blast in the hot strip mill of Nagarnar Steel Plant in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. The condition of two of them is critical. Both have been admitted to the Medical College of the capital Raipur. Two other employees are being treated in the burn unit of Maharani Hospital in Jagdalpur.
The plant's employees and officials informed on Tuesday morning that this incident happened when breaker maintenance work was going on in the blast furnace in the plant. During this, after a short circuit, there was a massive explosion in the tunnel furnace and a terrible fire broke out. Senior technician Tapas Nayak, Mahendra Kumar Lahare of Siemens Company, Devendra Nag of Singh Enterprises and Amarendra Kumar Chaudhary of Siemens Company, who were working there, got badly burnt due to this explosion and the spark of the short circuit. The incident is said to have happened on Monday.
The concerned officials reached the spot and took stock of the situation and have given instructions to further tighten the security measures. In this case, the NMDC management has not yet given any official information about the accident. It is worth mentioning that the major technical facilities of the Nagarnar Steel Plant include the largest blast furnace (BF) in India.
