Black magic attempt on Maldives President Muizzu, 3 accused including state minister arrested

Black Magic on President Muizzu: A major incident has come to light from Maldives. Police have arrested a minister of the country's government on charges of doing black magic on President Muizzu. Local media reported that the police have arrested State Minister for Environment Fatima Shamnaz along with two others on charges of doing black magic to get close to Muizzu.

The police said in a statement that after arresting the three people, they were produced in the court, from where the court sent all of them to seven days of police custody. According to local media, Minister Shamnaz's brother and other accused have been arrested. Shamnaz is the former wife of Adam Ramiz, a minister in the President's Office. The police searched Shamnaz's house before arresting her. The police have also seized some items from her house.

Police spokesman Ahmed Shifan also confirmed that Minister Shamnaz was arrested along with two others on Tuesday. Earlier, the police raided Shamnaz's house and seized several items. Sources said that these items might have been used to perform black magic.

The accused has worked with minister Muizzu in several positions

Before being moved to the environment ministry in April, Shamnaz served as minister of state at the Presidential Palace for Muizzu, who was elected in September last year. He previously worked with Muizzu on the Maleni Town Council and served as a town councillor when Muizzu was mayor.

A similar incident has happened in Maldives before.

Black magic is known locally as funditaa or sihuru. Although it is considered a serious crime under Islamic law, it is widely practised in the Maldives. In May, police arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly practicing black magic on a member of the ruling party contesting parliamentary elections. In December 2015, the Islamic Ministry issued a public statement warning that black magic was becoming too common in society and that one should avoid such practices.
