BJP's Pradeep Kumar Singh won from Araria, defeated RJD's Shahnawaz Alam

Forbesganj/Araria, 04 June (HS). Pradeep Kumar Singh, BJP candidate from Araria Lok Sabha, has won here once again. Pradeep Singh defeated his closest rival Shahnawaz Alam of RJD in a direct contest. Pradeep Singh (BJP) got 600146 votes while Shahnawaz Alam (RJD) got 580052 votes. Pradeep Singh had won the last election as well and has won the election this time and has once again become an MP.

Araria is a general Lok Sabha seat in Bihar. The literacy rate of this parliamentary constituency is around 53.53 percent. According to 2014 data, there are 8,43,076 male and 7,44,212 female voters here. The population of Scheduled Castes here is around 13.61% and Scheduled Tribes is around 1.38%. Araria Lok Sabha seat came into existence in 1967. Earlier it was a part of Purnia. Congress won in Araria in the first two elections. In 1977, in the anti-Indira wave, this seat went to the possession of Janata Party. Congress again made a comeback in 1980. Then Sukhdev Paswan hoisted the flag of Janata Dal here for three consecutive times. Since then, there has been a contest between BJP and RJD in Araria. Araria Lok Sabha seat remained SC reserved till 2004, after delimitation it became a general seat in 2009.

In the 2014 elections, UPA candidate Mohammad Taslimuddin defeated BJP on this seat. RJD won by securing 4,07,978 votes out of a total of 9,75,811 votes. A total of 61.4 percent voters voted in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. BJP won this seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP's Pradeep Kumar Singh defeated RJD's Sarfaraz Alam by 1.37 lakh votes. This time in 2024, the sitting MP and BJP candidate Pradeep Singh was pitted against RJD's Shahnawaz Alam.

Araria Lok Sabha seat falls in Seemanchal region. More than 40 percent of the population of this Lok Sabha is Muslim. However, only Muslim factor does not work in elections. Yadavs and other backward castes also play an important role in the victory and defeat of a party. There are 6 assembly seats in Araria Lok Sabha constituency. These are Narpatganj, Raniganj (SC), Forbesganj, Araria, Jokihat, Sikti. Out of these six seats, 3 are occupied by BJP, and the remaining three seats are occupied by JDU, RJD and Congress.
