Manipur: Two youths of Meitei community were taken hostage by Kuki extremists 6 days ago. Now the Manipur government has become helpless and has to release 11 remand prisoners for their release. These two youths were taken hostage when they were returning from exams and had lost their way. At present, both these Meitei youths have been handed over to the police. Chief Minister N Biren Singh has also given this information.
On September 27, three youths from the Meitei community suddenly went missing. Later one youth was found by the police and two youths are being searched. Later it was revealed that the militants of the Kuki community had taken both the youths hostage and had taken them to their hideout. As soon as these cases came to light, the government became alert and talks were held with the extremists of the Kuki community.
Both youths were released
At 6:00 am on Thursday, Thokchom Thoithoiba and Oinam Thoithoi, both youths from the Meitei community, were released and handed over to the police. Assam Rifles and CRPF were also present at the SP office of Kangpokpi district.

Manipur Police said that both the youths were in the custody of Adivasi Ekta Samiti, the largest organization of the Kuki community in the hill district. This organization had kept him hostage. After the release of two Meitei youth, Kuki organization ITL shared pictures and said that 11 Kuki accused were transferred from the Valley Jail to Hill District Churachandpur Police this morning.

A police officer said that both Meitei youths are being taken to Imphal. On September 27, both the youths along with another friend Johnson had gone to New Keithelmanby to appear for the SSC GD recruitment exam. They lost their way in Kangpokpi district. When Johnson was rescued by the army and handed over to the police. On the other hand, both the youth remained in captivity of armed people. The state government, with the help of the Centre, negotiated the release of both the youths.

Police said that 11 prisoners were handed over to Saparmina police station at 2 am last night. 11 prisoners were to be released on bail a month ago, but now they have been released.
