After the death of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, political controversies are not stopping. Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had accused BJP of insulting him regarding his funeral. Now BJP has attacked Congress over the absence of Gandhi family during the immersion of ashes.
BJP targets absence of Gandhi family
BJP leader Manjinder Sirsa criticized the Congress and the Gandhi family on this issue and said that it is very sad that the Gandhi family, which was doing politics on the last rites since yesterday, was nowhere to be seen today on the occasion of immersion of ashes. He said, “There were no cameras at Yamuna Ghat, so no member of the Gandhi family or any big Congress leader was present. This is an insult to the former Prime Minister by the Congress.”
Immersion of ashes as per Sikh rituals
The ashes of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh were immersed in the Yamuna river near the Gurdwara located at Majnu Ka Tila as per Sikh traditions. During this, Dr. Singh’s wife Gursharan Kaur, his three daughters – Upinder Singh, Daman Singh and Amrit Singh – and other family members were present.
Dr Singh’s family, following Sikh customs, has also announced that Akhand Path will be organized at his official residence on January 1. Apart from this, bhog, last ardas and kirtan will be organized in his memory at Rakabganj Gurudwara near the Parliament complex on January 3.
Political dispute between Congress and BJP
While sharing the pictures of the immersion of ashes of Dr. Manmohan Singh, Congress tweeted, “Today, the ashes of the son of Mother India and former Prime Minister of the country, Dr. Manmohan Singh ji, will be immersed in Yamuna Ghat near the Gurdwara at Majnu Ka Tila with full rituals. But were immersed. The country will never forget his simplicity, service to the country and dedication.”
On the contrary, BJP raised questions on Congress saying that the party is doing politics even on the death of a former Prime Minister. On the questions raised by Congress regarding performing the last rites at Nigambodh Ghat, BJP replied that it takes time to provide land for the memorial, but the last rites cannot be delayed.
Death of Dr. Manmohan Singh and state honor
It is noteworthy that Dr. Manmohan Singh died on 26 December in AIIMS (Delhi). He was cremated with state honors at Nigambodh Ghat on 30 December. There was a wave of mourning across the country on his death, and various leaders paid tribute remembering his contribution.
This political controversy seems to be limited to political rhetoric instead of focusing only on the honor of a great leader. In this dispute between Congress and BJP, the question arises whether this is the time for politics or to bid farewell to a great personality with peace and respect?
