BJP releases second list, tickets given to 5 women along with 29 new candidates

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its second list for the Delhi Assembly elections on Saturday night. A total of 29 candidates’ names have been included in this list, which also includes 5 women. BJP has declared the names of a total of 58 candidates in both the lists declared so far.

5 women candidates included in the second list

  1. Matia Mahal: Mrs. Deepti Indora
  2. Madipur (SC): Smt. Urmila Kailash Gangwal
  3. Tilak Nagar: Smt. Shweta Saini
  4. Najafgarh: Mrs. Neelam Pahalwan
  5. Kondli (SC): Smt. Priyanka Gautam

In the first list, BJP had given tickets to two women candidates:

  • Shalimar Bagh: Rekha Gupta
  • Seemapuri: Kumari Rinku

Thus far, the party has fielded a total of 7 women to contest the assembly elections.

Ticket given to Priyanka Gautam who recently joined BJP

Priyanka Gautam, who got the ticket from Kondli (SC) seat, had recently left Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joined BJP on December 25.

  • Priyanka has been a councilor from Ghadoli in Delhi Municipal Corporation.
  • After joining BJP he said:

    “The Jatav community is not respected in AAP. The party exploits the followers of Dr. Ambedkar and the Jatav community only for political gains.”

58 candidates declared so far, decision pending on 12 seats

BJP has so far announced the names of a total of 58 candidates for the 70-member Delhi Assembly:

  • First list: 29 names
  • Second list: 29 names

Now only candidates for 12 seats are left to be announced, for which BJP will take a decision soon.

BJP’s strategy: Emphasis on women and newly joined leaders

  • Promotion of women candidates: BJP has emphasized on women representation, especially on seats reserved for Scheduled Castes.
  • Opportunity for new member Priyanka: By giving ticket to Priyanka Gautam, BJP has given the message that new talent will be given priority in the party.

Other important things in BJP’s list

  • The party has paid special attention to caste and social equations while selecting candidates in both the lists.
  • Combination of new faces and experience: The party has given opportunity to experienced leaders as well as new faces working at the grassroots level.
