The country’s ruling party BJP has received donations of Rs 2604.74 crore during the financial year 2023-24. Whereas according to the data released by the Election Commission, the opposition party Congress has received donations of Rs 281.38 crore.
These donation figures are from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024. Before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP received donations of Rs 740 crore in the financial year 2018-19. Whereas Congress received donations of Rs 146 crore.
Both BJP and Congress have received the biggest donation from Prudential Electoral Trust. Which has given Rs 723 crore to BJP and Rs 156 crore to Congress. In other words, in 2023-24, Prudential Electoral Trust donated about 33 percent to BJP and more than 50 percent to Congress.
The donations declared by BJP and Congress do not include money given through electoral bonds.
Recognized national party Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has received donations of Rs 11.06 crore in the financial year 2023-24. Another national party CPI-M received donations worth Rs 7.64 crore.
The National People’s Party (NPP), the only recognized national party in the Northeast, has received donations of Rs 14.85 lakh.
Congress has received donations worth Rs 1.38 lakh, which include donations from top leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, KC Venugopal and Digvijay Singh.
