Anna University: The case of alleged sexual harassment of a student of Anna University of Tamil Nadu is gaining momentum. This incident has created a stir in the politics of the state. BJP and Anna DMK (AIADMK) protested on this issue on Thursday (26 December). BJP alleged that the accused is an official of Dravida Munnetra Kasgam (DMK). However, the ruling DMK has denied the allegations.

BJP Tamil Nadu unit president K. Seeing the photographs of the Annamalai accused with DMK leaders, it was alleged that the accused is an office bearer of the student wing of the ruling party. He claimed that the accused committed the crime because he belonged to the party and the police did not take action against him. To make the protest more effective, Annamalai announced that he would flog himself six times outside his residence on Friday. He said that as long as the DMK government remains in power, he will not wear shoes and will remain barefoot. The then BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai flogged himself outside his residence in Coimbatore on Friday (December 27) in protest against the apathy of the police and the state government.

AIADMK leaders taken into custody by police

The police have taken into custody the senior leaders of ADMK who were protesting in this matter. Senior BJP leader and former Governor Tamilisai Sundararajan also condemned the police action, saying sexual crimes were on the rise and the government and police had become inactive. Sundararajan stressed that they have the right to protest and the government should take strict action in this matter.

Politics heated up in Tamil Nadu

This issue has become not only a law and order issue but also a political issue. BJP has made this the basis of a big protest against the DMK government. DMK also denied BJP’s allegations and said that the opposition is making it out of importance for political gains. Political temperature has heated up in Tamil Nadu.
