Chandigarh: BJP Vice President Fatehjang Singh Bajwa said that the AAP government of the state is completely responsible for the problems being faced by farmers regarding paddy procurement.
The BJP leader said that like every year, this time too money has been sent by the Central Government for the purchase of paddy. Then the honorable government could not do the procurement and lifting smoothly.
He said that last year, on the instructions of Bhagwant Mann government, farmers had changed the paddy seeds and planted 126 varieties of paddy, due to which the yield of paddy was 10 to 12 percent less than the prescribed standards. Furthermore, the amount of rice breakage doubled. Due to this, rice millers had to suffer huge loss of crores from their pocket. Rice millers have been demanding compensation for this loss from the Punjab government for the last several months but the Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab is ignoring it.
Farmers have planted 126 varieties of paddy as well as last year's hybrid varieties, due to which the rice millers feel that they are bound to incur losses, due to which the rice millers are not entering into milling agreements with the Punjab government.
