BJP has succeeded in limiting the solution of Kashmir issue to holding assembly elections in Union Territory: Mehbooba | News India

Srinagar, September 6 (HS). PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said on Friday that the BJP has succeeded in limiting the solution of the Kashmir issue to holding assembly elections in the Union Territory.

Mufti told reporters at the PDP office in Srinagar that the BJP has limited the Kashmir issue to the restoration of statehood to Article 370 and has limited statehood to elections. He said some parties are happy about the elections and are talking about restoring statehood. It is like finding a shoe after cutting off the foot. Kashmir is the main issue of the PDP for which we have worked earlier as well. We talk about reconciliation. He said limiting the issue only to statehood is injustice to the people.

When asked about the pre-poll alliance between the National Conference and the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir, the PDP president said it was a seat-sharing arrangement to gain power. “This is not an alliance based on principles. It is seat-sharing for power. Look at what is happening in Tral, the seat from where the JKPCC president (Tarik Hamid Karra) is contesting. Wherever the NC has left a seat for the Congress, an NC leader is contesting as an independent and he has the full support of NC workers,” he said.

Reacting to the Congress' move to make Choudhary Lal Singh its star campaigner for the elections, Mufti said it was a matter of policy for different parties. She said a tragedy had taken place in Shopian (2009) during the NC rule. Instead of punishing the culprits, those who filed complaints were put behind bars. Referring to the Kathua rape and murder case during her regime, she said half a dozen people are serving life sentences and two ministers were dropped from the Cabinet because they had participated in a rally in support of the rapists.
