BJP busy in candidate selection, possible to bet on new faces

BJP Delhi List 1734951841903 173

Preparations for assembly elections are in full swing in Delhi. While Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its candidates on all 70 seats, Congress has announced candidates on 21 seats. Now Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also busy in the process of finalizing the list of candidates.

BJP’s decision will be taken in a week

According to party sources, a meeting of the BJP’s Central Election Committee will be held in the coming week. In this, the names of the candidates for all 70 seats will be finalized. This time the party’s strategy seems to be different. BJP is planning to give a chance to new faces on many seats, while it may also field some former MPs. The party believes that selecting the right candidates is very important to take advantage of the 10-year anti-incumbency wave against AAP.

Former MPs may get a chance

A senior BJP leader, on condition of anonymity, said that the party had strategically not given tickets to some MPs in the Lok Sabha elections. Now these leaders can be fielded in the assembly elections.

  • Preparations are on to field Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma against Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi seat.
  • Similarly, names of former MPs like Meenakshi Lekhi and Ramesh Bidhuri are also being considered.

Keep an eye on the leaders from AAP and Congress

In recent times, BJP has included some influential leaders from AAP and Congress. The party is considering the possibility of giving tickets to these leaders also.

  • Kailash Gehlot, who has previously been a minister in the Kejriwal government, may be fielded from Najafgarh.
  • Raj Kumar Anand, who can contest from Patel Nagar seat.
  • Senior Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely is likely to contest from his stronghold Gandhinagar.

Strict on the losing leaders, trust in the winning ones

This time BJP will give opportunity to new candidates on those seats where the party has faced consecutive defeats in the last two elections.

  • On such seats, where the same leader was fielded in 2015 and 2020 and he lost, new faces will be given priority this time.
  • However, leaders who lost by a small margin last time and are continuously active among the public can also be given a chance.
  • The 8 BJP MLAs who won in 2020 will be given tickets again.

Strategy to end 26 years of exile

BJP’s focus is on ending 26 years of exile. The party believes that there is dissatisfaction among the public against Arvind Kejriwal’s government, which can be taken advantage of by selecting the right candidates.
