After 10 years, assembly elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir for 90 assembly constituencies in three phases on 18 September, 25 September and 1 October. Assembly elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, which had earlier divided the state into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

According to the Election Commission of India, 63.88% voters exercised their franchise in the three-phase elections. Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Congress have decided to contest the 2024 assembly elections together. Whereas People's Democratic Party (PDP) and BJP contested the elections separately. The alliance of PDP and BJP in Jammu and Kashmir broke in June 2018, when BJP withdrew support from Mehbooba Mufti's PDP. After separation, the then President Ramnath Kovind had imposed Governor's rule in the area.
