BIS told UPCL about the details of standards and quality, emphasised on its importance

Dehradun, July 27 (HS). The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organized an awareness program for the officials of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) at Urja Bhawan Dehradun on Saturday. The program focused on spreading information about Indian standards and quality control orders.

The aim was to provide UPCL officials with the knowledge and tools necessary to incorporate Indian standards in their projects. This will ensure the quality and safety of public infrastructure. The program was organized under the guidance of UPCL Managing Director Anil Kumar. The inauguration was done by Director Finance Kamal Sharma, Executive Director HR RJ Malik and BIS Director and Head Dehradun Saurabh Tiwari. Joint Director Shyam Kumar, Deputy Director Sachin Chaudhary, Deputy Director Nitish Jain and Assistant Director Saurabh Chaurasia from BIS participated in the program. From UPCL, Superintending Engineer Surinder Singh Kanwar, Deputy Chief Personnel Officer Jitendra Singh and 12 officials along with more than 50 senior UPCL officials participated virtually.

BIS Director and Head Dehradun Saurabh Tiwari emphasized the importance of following Indian Standards to ensure safety, durability and quality of infrastructure projects in the state. He informed that BIS is organizing such programs to promote standardization and quality control in various sectors. During the session, Nitish Jain and Shyam Kumar gave detailed information about the relevant Indian Standards. Sachin Chaudhary gave information about various digital platforms of BIS like BIS Care App, process of downloading and commenting on standards. The participants were also informed about the recent quality control orders related to the day-to-day activities of UPCL.

Agreement to create standardization cell in UPCL

RJ Malik appreciated the steps taken by BIS management for awareness. He also appreciated the capacity building programmes being organised for state government officials and assured to nominate UPCL officials on regular basis. He agreed to form a standardisation cell in UPCL to better adopt standardisation at all levels and expressed UPCL's commitment to contribute technically in the development of standards. A special interactive session was also organised in the programme. In this, the participants got an opportunity to discuss and get clarifications on the challenges faced in implementing Indian Standards in their daily work.
