This morning, the weather remained pleasant in the capital Patna and surrounding areas including Bhojpur and light showers also occurred. However, in view of the possibility of extremely heavy rain in Araria and Kishanganj districts of the state on Wednesday (15 July 2026), the Meteorological Department (IMD) ‘Orange Alert’ Has been issued and advised the local administration and people to take special caution. Apart from this, heavy rain has also been predicted in Katihar, Madhubani, Purnia and Supaul districts.
Thunderstorms and winds will blow at a speed of 40 km
According to meteorologists, there is a great danger of lightning (thunderstorm) along with thunder in the districts of northern and south-eastern parts of Bihar. During this period, there is also a possibility of strong winds blowing at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour in these areas. It is a matter of relief that the weather will remain normal in the entire state for the next two to three days, due to which no major fluctuations in maximum and minimum temperatures or increase in humidity are expected.
Record 141.2 mm rainfall in Chanpatia; Kaimur was the hottest
Talking about the last 24 hours, torrential rains were recorded in many areas of North and East Bihar including West Champaran, East Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Vaishali, Katihar, Saran, Madhepura and Madhubani. The highest rainfall of 141.2 mm was recorded in Chanpatia in West Champaran in the state. On the contrary, due to sunshine in 23 districts of the state including Patna on Tuesday, an increase in mercury ranging from 0.1 to 5.8 degrees Celsius was observed. Kaimur was the hottest area of Bihar yesterday, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 38.7 degrees Celsius, while the lowest minimum temperature was 23.9 degrees Celsius in Vaishali. The fastest wind was recorded in Motihari at a speed of 39 km per hour.
These 14 districts including Patna will receive only nominal rain.
A big contradiction is being seen in the weather of Bihar at this time. While the districts of North Bihar are experiencing heavy rains, people of South-West and South-Central Bihar are content with only cloud movement and slight drizzle. According to the Meteorological Department:

Nominal rainfall (up to 2.4 mm): Only nominal showers may occur today in 14 districts including Patna, Gayaji, Jehanabad, Nalanda, Lakhisarai, Nawada, Sheikhpura.

Light rain (2.5 to 15.5 mm): There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall in Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Jamui, Munger, Banka, Khagaria, Vaishali, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Madhubani, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, West Champaran and East Champaran.
Monsoon has rained 133 mm less than normal in Bihar
The drought situation can be gauged from the fact that during the last 24 hours, 69 to 99 percent less water has fallen than normal in districts like Patna, Jehanabad, Arwal, Samastipur, Lakhisarai, Munger, Banka, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia and Sheikhpura. Whereas in Gayaji, Kaimur, Buxar, Rohtas, Bhojpur, Aurangabad, Nalanda, Nawada and Jamui the amount of rainfall was absolutely zero. According to the data, the state has recorded a huge deficit of 133 mm compared to the normal rainfall (324 mm) and only 191.4 mm of rain has been received so far. In the capital Patna, the maximum temperature recorded yesterday was 35.3 degrees and the minimum temperature was 25.8 degrees Celsius.
