Bihar: Poor people go to jail for drinking alcohol and those who sell it roam around freely: Manjhi | News India

Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said that the decision to ban liquor in the state was taken very thoughtfully and collectively, but now there is a need to review the policy of prohibition so that the poor do not face any problems.

Nitish Kumar's government has implemented liquor ban in Bihar, but despite the ban, cases of alcoholism and smuggling keep coming up in the state. Now Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has raised questions on liquor ban. He said sarcastically that if someone drinks alcohol at night, he will not be caught. After Jitan Ram Manjhi's statement, there has been a stir in the state and RJD has started attacking the Nitish government over this.

During a press conference, when Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi was asked whether he considers banning liquor in Bihar appropriate? He said that the ban is not wrong, but the way it has been implemented is wrong, it is not right. Jitan Ram Manjhi criticized and said that the liquor ban law is being misused. Giving an example, he said that if a poor person drinks even a small amount i.e. 250 grams of liquor, he is put in jail and no action is taken against those who smuggle liquor worth lakhs. Forget arrest, they are released. No one will be caught for drinking liquor at night. The government should have a clear policy on this matter, but the government's policy is double.

Liquor prohibition law needs review

Jitan Ram Manjhi said that the decision to ban liquor in the state was taken thoughtfully and collectively, but now there is a need to review the policy of prohibition so that the poor do not face problems. He said that five lakh poor people have been punished under the prohibition law. He repeatedly appealed to the Chief Minister to review the prohibition rules.

Apart from the ban, Jitan Manjhi also reacted to the statement made by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on reservation during his US tour. He said that it is not right for Rahul Gandhi to go to other countries and make absurd statements. Congress leaders should not go abroad and make such statements.

RJD attacks on Jitan Ram Manjhi's statement

Meanwhile, after Jitan Ram Manjhi's statement about drinking alcohol, the opposition parties of the state have started attacking Jitan Ram Manjhi and the Nitish government of Bihar. The opposition RJD has accused Manjhi of hypocrisy. In a statement issued by the RJD, it has been said that the Union Minister is publicly admitting that he drinks alcohol at night. Poor people are being arrested under the prohibition law. He also demanded action against the Union Minister. He said that the matter should be investigated.
