The threat of flood in Bihar is not showing any signs of decreasing. There are reports of damage due to floods one after the other from Bihar. At some places, permanent houses are collapsing due to flood erosion, while at other places both people's houses and fields have been submerged. Even today the flood situation is serious in many districts of Bihar. Rivers and canals are in spate due to excessive flow of water. The administration is also continuously engaged in relief work.
In a new bulletin issued on Thursday, the state water resources department said that most of the rivers in the state including Kosi, Gandak, Bagmati, Mahananda and Ganga are flowing above the danger level at various places. About 12 districts on the banks of Ganga, Buxar, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Patna, Samastipur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Khagaria, Bhagalpur and Katihar, with a population of 25 lakh, are affected by the floods. Also, five people have died so far.
People's lives have become disrupted due to floods
Whereas 18 districts East Champaran, West Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Araria, Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Supaul, Madhepura, Saharsa, Gopalganj were affected due to floods in Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati. About 16.5 lakh people in Saran and Khagaria have been affected by floods in Mahananda and other rivers. People's lives have become disrupted due to floods.
Water is being released from Nepal
Due to floods, embankments are breaking at many places, making life difficult for people. Due to floods, people are facing huge problems for food. It is not raining in Bihar, but due to the water being released from Nepal, crores of people of Bihar are facing floods. Lakhs of people have been forced to migrate.
NDRF teams engaged in relief and rescue
In view of the flood situation, Air Force helicopters are providing relief to the people. In the last three days, Air Force helicopters have delivered relief material to Sitamarhi and Darbhanga districts. A total of 17 teams of NDRF and 19 teams of SDRD along with Air Force helicopters have been deployed to rescue flood victims in Bihar.
