Jammu Kashmir: After the results of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, four independent MLAs have announced their support to Omar Abdullah's party National Conference (NC). The NC has 42 seats in Jammu and Kashmir, but the NC-Congress alliance with 48 seats is more than half the tally of 45 in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. National Conference has won in the valley, while BJP has got the votes decisively in the plains of Jammu. Congress has got only one seat in Jammu region.
Need for coordination with the Centre- Omar Abdullah
Jammu and Kashmir is a union territory and the central government controls its day-to-day administration. Omar Abdullah understands this situation very well. His statement after the election results caught the attention of political analysts, in which he had repeatedly said that there is a need for coordination with the Centre, because many issues of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be solved by fighting with the Centre.
Omar Abdullah said, 'I will make every possible effort so that the incoming government can maintain good relations with the LG and the central government. The National Conference has performed well even without an alliance with the Congress. Our alliance with Congress was not just for seats. We could have won all the seats except one. ,
Omar Abdullah further said, 'The priority of the new government is to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. For which we will work together with the government in Delhi. In this context, I believe that the Prime Minister is a respectable person. During the election campaign, he had promised to restore statehood to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the Home Minister had also said the same.
Speculation about a possible political alliance with BJP has intensified.
Omar Abdullah has also indicated that there will be no conflict at present on the issue of Article 370. He said, 'Our political stance has never changed. It is foolish to expect BJP to restore Article 370. We will raise this issue at the appropriate time. These statements of Omar Abdullah have intensified speculations about a possible political alliance with BJP.
Both the parties have been together before also. The National Conference was part of Atal Bihari Vajpayee's NDA government and Omar Abdullah was a minister in the Vajpayee government between 1999 and 2002.
