In a major blow, the Government of Canada has announced that from 2025, those applying for Permanent Residency (PR) under Express Entry will no longer get the benefit of an additional 50 points to 200 points on a job offer. This change has been made to prevent fraud in the system.
This is going to be a big blow to those youth of Punjabi origin who have applied for PR with job offers. The Canada Immigration Department said the move will apply to candidates who plan to enter PR through Express Entry.
Experts described the move as an enabler of fraud and said it could put skilled applicants at a disadvantage. He suggested that the government should adopt a better screening process and not directly eliminate the number of people offered jobs. At present there are about 1 lakh 35 thousand PR applications in which the job offer is attached.
Express Entry candidates with a current job offer can earn an additional 50 or 200 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points. These extra points can easily make the difference between a candidate receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residence or not being invited at all. The Immigration Department further clarified that removing the extra points for a valid job offer is a temporary measure, but has not yet said when it will end.
