Recently, he surprised everyone by taking premature retirement after serving 12 years of brilliant and impeccable service in the Indian Army. After leaving the army service, he has given a very interesting and open interview with the famous podcaster Raj Shamani, in which he has openly mentioned the untouched aspects of his tenure spent with His Excellency the President, his inner experiences and the steps taken to serve the country. During this conversation, he also revealed that he has made the biggest personal sacrifice of his life while fulfilling the responsibility of protecting and serving the first citizen of the country in the highly sensitive environment of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
During the podcast, when Rishabh Singh Sambyal was asked what kind of compromises or sacrifices he had made in his personal life while working as the President’s ADC, he made a very shocking and serious revelation. He told that he is unmarried and to become ADC to the President, there is a very strict rule or clause that the person holding this post cannot be married. Elaborating on this rule, she shared that she had to stay away from her family for a long time and according to her, this was the biggest sacrifice of her life. He clarified that while holding this prestigious and highly responsible post, you do not have any freedom like a common man to roam around in the outside world, spend time with friends or enjoy normal life. This is the price he had to pay for serving the highest office of the country. When he was serving in Rashtrapati Bhavan, his every moment was dedicated to the country’s constitution, security and protocol. He told that he never had any idea that there was a category or post like ADC in the army, and in the initial phase he had no ambition that he would ever reach Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Recalling the journey of his appointment, Rishabh Singh Sambyal said that at that time he was engaged in a joint military exercise with military contingents of different countries in India. At that very moment, he got a call from his Commanding Officer (CO) and was told that he had been shortlisted for this prestigious role. The CO asked him what he thought about this. Rishabh’s first reaction to this was not very encouraging, rather he said that he did not want to leave this military exercise midway and go somewhere else. However, later when he consulted other senior officers and colleagues about this, everyone explained to him that this experience would be extremely learning and unique for his professional and personal life. After this, when he contacted his CO and said that he wanted to try this challenge, his CO took a very strict stance. The CO said in clear words that you cannot just ‘try’ it, you either have to go in with full commitment or abandon the idea. The CO warned that if he failed the selection process, it would be very difficult for him to return to the unit and he would become very strict towards him. After this warning, Rishabh without wasting any time gave his 100 percent and achieved this difficult milestone.
Talking about the mental and emotional journey of a soldier working in one of the most secure and ultra-secure areas of the country, the podcast also raised the question whether he ever felt alone in this difficult and lonely role. Responding to this very casually, Rishabh admitted that he did feel lonely at times, but he never allowed that loneliness to become his weakness, but always transformed it into a positive energy. He said that this loneliness gave him the necessary space and time to rethink his life, his way of thinking and his strengths and shortcomings. He loved being completely alone for at least an hour every day, with no one around him. He desperately needed that one hour of mental space in which he could do nothing but just sit quietly, but that emptiness gave him the opportunity to evaluate himself and become internally strong. This time taken out for himself amidst the strict discipline of Rashtrapati Bhavan and 24-hour high-profile security duty remained the backbone of his mental balance and discipline. After 12 years of impeccable military service and representing the country as an Aide to the President, his experience has become a source of inspiration for the youth, teaching the high level of dedication that sacrificing personal comforts to serve the country requires.
