To attract the attention of fans towards Test cricket, ICC launched the World Test Championship in the year 2019. Australia and New Zealand have won the World Test Championship trophy. Team India has reached the finals of this tournament twice and both times India had to face defeat. Now ICC can make a big change before the upcoming ICC World Test Championship final. A latest update has come out regarding that.
The number of matches in the series may increase
Till now many countries have been seen playing 2-2 Test series in the ICC World Test Championship. Because of this, the distribution of points between teams is often not fair. According to media reports, ICC is planning to end the 2-match Test series to be held during the World Test Championship.
After which a series of at least 3 matches will be organized. In fact, recently a meeting regarding this was held at the ICC headquarters in Dubai. In which many important issues related to Test cricket were discussed. ICC seems to have agreed on day and night test matches.
The report claims
According to the report, an ICC source said, “Only India, Australia and England play more Test series, while countries like Sri Lanka, South Africa and New Zealand play mostly 2-match series. Due to which fairness is maintained in the distribution of points among the teams. Day-Night Test can be seen to increase the number of spectators in Test cricket matches. Recently, during the Test series being played between Pakistan and England, very few spectators are reaching the stadium.
