Indian Railways has announced a very wonderful and relieving news for lakhs of daily commuters, students, working people and businessmen who travel daily on the busiest railway routes of Uttar Pradesh and the country. Railway administration has taken a historic step by seriously understanding the problems of the passengers who are often troubled by not getting space to even step in the general coaches of trains, being pushed due to huge crowd and fighting for seats. As a joint initiative of the Railway Board and local administrative authorities, the number of coaches in vital trains connecting major cities of Uttar Pradesh—Kanpur Intercity and Chitrakoot Express—has been directly doubled. Now these popular trains will be seen running on the tracks with full 24 modern ICF coaches instead of the old 12 coaches, with special expansion of ordinary class and SLR coaches. This visionary decision of the Railways will not only provide relief to the passengers from overcrowding, but will also make the journey of thousands of common people traveling every day much easier, safer and more comfortable than before.
The long standing demand of daily commuters has been fulfilled, now 24 ICF coaches will be installed in trains.
The number of passengers traveling daily in these major trains running under North Central Railway and Northern Railway zones of Indian Railways was much more than the capacity. Especially during morning and evening peak hours, passengers traveling between Kanpur Central, Prayagraj Sangam, Chitrakoot Dham Karvi and Pratapgarh always complained that due to less number of coaches in trains, they had to face severe crowding. Many times the situation became so dire that passengers had to travel by hanging on the doors of the coaches, due to which there was always a fear of a major accident. Keeping in mind this serious problem of passengers and the continuously increasing demand, the Railway Administration finally made a major reshuffle and decided to increase the capacity of trains which was most important for the passengers. Now a total of 24 ICF coaches are being added to these trains, which will include 22 general class coaches and two SLR/D coaches. The biggest and direct benefit of this sudden huge increase in the number of general coaches will be to those daily passengers who travel on general tickets without reservation.
New system implemented with immediate effect in Kanpur-Prayagraj Sangam Intercity Express
Under this extended arrangement, Railways has first implemented this rule with immediate effect in train numbers 14102 and 14101 – i.e. the popular Intercity Express running between Kanpur Central to Prayagraj Sangam – running on the highly busy route. Now this train is running on the tracks with 24 coaches on its scheduled time, due to which the passengers traveling on this route have started getting immediate relief. Thousands of people commute between Kanpur and Prayagraj every day for education, business and jobs. In such a situation, due to increasing the number of coaches in Intercity Express from 12 to 24, the passenger holding capacity within the train has almost doubled. Passengers have praised this step of the Railways and said that now they will not have to come to the platform hours in advance to catch the train and will be able to get enough seats for everyone to sit easily.
Chitrakoot Express and Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh Express also started with increased capacity.
Apart from Kanpur Intercity Express, this new system has also been extended to other important trains connecting the centers of religious and historical importance of Uttar Pradesh. According to the official information received from the railway authorities, train number 22442 (Kanpur Central to Chitrakoot Dham Karvi Express) and train number 14124 (Chitrakoot Dham Karvi to Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh Express) have started operating on their scheduled routes from September 8 with increased capacity i.e. 24 coaches. Along with this, trains running in the return direction—i.e. Train No. 14123 (Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh to Chitrakoot Dham Karvi Express) and Train No. 22441 (Chitrakoot Dham Karvi to Kanpur Central Express)—are fully back on track with 24 coaches from September 9. Thus, for the passengers traveling on all these routes, the struggle to get a seat in the train is now going to be a thing of history, and this step of Railways is working to take the regional transport system to a new level.
There will be relief from congestion, passengers’ journey will be safer and easier than before.
This step of Indian Railways is not limited to just increasing the number of coaches in trains, but it is also a huge improvement related to the safety of passengers and their human rights. When the number of normal coaches in trains is less, incidents of Chain Pulling become very common due to overcrowding, as people try to somehow force their way inside the train. This not only spoils the timing of trains but also puts unnecessary pressure on the operations of the railways. Now that the number of general coaches has been doubled in important trains like Kanpur Intercity and Chitrakoot Express, passengers will not have to struggle to enter the train. Availability of adequate number of seats will automatically prevent stampedes and chaos on the platform. For the elderly, women and children, this journey will now become much safer and stress-free than before.
This initiative of Railway Administration will prove to be a milestone in regional development and welfare of passengers.
Traffic experts and railway unions have also welcomed this decision of the administration and called it a very commendable step. He believes that in the present times, when the traffic pressure and pollution on roadways is continuously increasing, it is very important to attract more and more people towards safe rail travel. When trains run on time and have adequate space and facilities for passengers, the general public’s trust in public transport will become stronger. Railway Board has clarified that keeping in mind the increasing number of passengers and their facilities in the future, a similar plan for expansion of coaches is being worked on on other busy routes of the country. All the railway passengers traveling between Kanpur, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot and Pratapgarh have expressed their gratitude towards the Railway Ministry and the local railway administration, due to which their daily journey has now become easy and pleasant.
