Big news for electricity bill consumers! MMC will not have to be paid in electricity bill, order issued

Electricity Bill Reduction Order: Haryana CM Nayab Saini has decided not to impose MMC in rural and urban areas. Under this rule, electricity consumers falling under tariff category-1 with domestic connected load up to 2 kW will have to pay a minimum monthly charge (MMC) of Rs 115. This rule was brought during the tenure of former Chief Minister Manohar Lal, which has now been implemented by CM Saini.

Let us tell you that this rule was brought by the former CM on February 23 during the announcement of relief to poor people in his 2024-25 budget proposals, which has now been implemented after four months.

Lakhs of families will get benefit

Former CM Manohar Lal had said in the Haryana Assembly that I propose to abolish MSC for tariff category-1 consumers with domestic connected load up to 2 kW. He had said that this decision of the government will provide relief of about Rs 180 crore to the poor families of the state. Along with this, this decision to abolish MMC charges will benefit about 9.5 lakh poor families of the state.

A senior official of the state government said that this rule will come into effect from the next billing cycle and consumers will get a discount of minimum 2 percent to maximum 91 percent on their total electricity bill. He said that if this decision of Rs 115 per kilowatt on domestic connection and load up to two kilowatts had come before the Lok Sabha elections, the picture would have been different.

Understand this rule like this

  • According to this scheme, consumers will have to pay only according to the electricity units consumed. For example, earlier if a family with 1 kW load consumed 30 units of electricity in a month, the bill would be Rs 115, which will now be reduced to Rs 60, as MSC will not be applicable.
  • Earlier, a consumer with 2 kW load had to pay Rs 230 for consuming 30 units in a month as the MMC per kW load was Rs 115. Under the new billing cycle, this bill will be reduced to Rs 60 as the per unit charge is Rs 2 and there will be no MMC charge with it.
  • In the state, the electricity charge for zero to 50 units is Rs 2 per unit and Rs 2.50 per unit is charged if the consumption is between 51 to 100 units. If the electricity consumption per month is between 101-150 units, then the total charge is Rs 2.75 per unit, with billing done from zero to 150 units.
