Sensex closing bell: A big decline is being seen in the stock market today. On Wednesday, the Sensex fell 790.34 (1.08%) points to close at 72,304.88. So Nifty fell 247.20 (1.11%) points and closed at 21951.15 points. Sensex and Nifty fell from their peaks during Wednesday's trading session.

Nifty Midcap, Smallcap and Microcap indices fell by two per cent each. Dalal Street investors suffered an estimated loss of Rs 6 lakh crore on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the market cap of companies listed in BSE reached Rs 386 lakh crore. During Wednesday's trading session, maximum selling was seen in the shares of auto, media, government banking and metal sectors in the market. Earlier on Tuesday, the Sensex had closed 305 points higher at 73,095.
