Big decision of Highway Authority on toll tax issue, the work of collection will be handed over to banks.

The MLFF system will reduce the need for toll plazas. Instead, sensors and equipment will be installed on the pillars, which will collect data of vehicles passing through the highway. Information about the vehicle passing through these sensors will be sent to the electronic toll payment system, which will deduct the amount from the Fastag wallet. The objective of this system is to reduce congestion at toll plazas and facilitate the travel of motorists. This will also ensure greater transparency in toll collection as the banks are regulated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Allow banks to appoint sub-contractors

Since banks do not have direct experience in toll collection, IHMCL, a subsidiary of NHAI, has allowed banks to appoint subcontractors. As per the bid document, subcontractors should have experience of working on at least 200 km of tolling systems, whether in India or abroad. These subcontractors will help streamline the toll collection process.

Strict rules regarding outstanding toll

The new toll system will also be able to deduct toll charges from the Fastag wallet and identify vehicles that do not have Fastag or whose tags have been damaged. Information about such vehicles will be shared with the central vehicle database 'VAHAN', making it mandatory for drivers to pay the outstanding toll. If they do not pay the dues, they will not get the NOC and fitness certificate, which will bring more transparency in the process.

Toll rates have not been decided yet

Toll rates for the 28 km long Dwarka Expressway have not been decided yet. Toll will be collected only from toll booths located on the Delhi-Gurgaon border. The successful bidder will have the right to collect toll for three years and will have to implement the system within three months of the award of the contract.
