Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a press conference in Kiev on Sunday evening to mark the second anniversary of Ukraine's war with Russia. In which Zelensky presented figures of military losses of the war. This is the first time he has made an official statement on Ukraine's military losses during the conflict.
“I don't know whether I have the right to give the numbers of our losses,” the Ukrainian president said. Everyone is a tragedy. “31,000 soldiers of the Ukrainian army were killed during this war.” The last time Ukraine reported the number of soldiers killed publicly was in December 2022, when Zelensky's adviser said that 13 thousand soldiers had been killed.
Russia claims 180,000 casualties
Ukraine has been closely monitoring the death toll since the war began. Comparative figures of deaths of Russian soldiers have also been released by Ukraine. Zelensky said Russia, on the other hand, suffered 500,000 casualties, 180,000 of whom died during military operations. However, this figure has not been confirmed by Russia.
Two lakh military casualties in Russia
A leaked document from the US intelligence agency Pentagon in February last year said that 15,500 to 17,000 soldiers on the Ukrainian side were killed, while an additional 106,500 to 110,500 were wounded.
The same report claimed that on the Russian side 35,000 to 42,500 soldiers were killed and 150,500 to 177,000 were wounded. Recently American officials have said that more than 200,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or injured.
