An Epsilon S rocket engine caught fire during a satellite launch in Japan. This rocket is part of the Japanese government’s ambitious plans to strengthen its position in space autonomy and satellite launch market.

An Epsilon S rocket engine caught fire during a satellite launch in Japan on Wednesday. However, the outer part of the rocket was not damaged in this incident. This is the second time this has happened with the Epsilon S rocket. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said the test was taking place in a reserved area at the Tanegashima Space Center in southwestern Japan. The Japan Exploration Agency (JAXA) is investigating the incident.

Last year also a similar explosion took place during the testing of the same rocket. Experts have expressed concern over the second such incident in a row, as the rocket launch was planned this year.

An ambitious plan of the Japanese government

Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said the Epsilon S rocket is part of the Japanese government’s ambitious plan. Its purpose is to ensure the autonomy of Japan’s space development and strengthen its position in the global market of satellite launches. Keeping this in mind, the government has fixed the date of its last flight next year.

Testing was also done in February

Japan’s space agency had also tested this rocket in February this year. However, the next launch of the H-3 rocket failed. After this, three consecutive successful flights were made. Its successful launch took place this month also. The agency has learned and made improvements from previous accidents and hopes to successfully test it at a scheduled date next year.
