This is the second time this has happened with the Epsilon S rocket. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said the test was taking place in a reserved area at the Tanegashima Space Center in southwestern Japan. The Japan Exploration Agency (JAXA) is investigating the incident.
Last year also a similar explosion took place during the testing of the same rocket. Experts have expressed concern over the second such incident in a row, as the rocket launch was planned this year.

Its successful launch took place this month also. The agency has learned and made improvements from previous accidents and hopes to successfully test it at a scheduled date next year.
