KYIV: Ukraine has stepped up long-range strikes in the past 24 hours, sinking a Russian submarine and targeting its airfields, damaging several buildings, officials said in a statement.

Russia has said a Ukrainian drone also attacked an apartment building, killing one person.

The surge in attacks since July comes as Ukraine presses its allies to allow the use of long-range missiles to strike Russian targets.

It is noteworthy that Western allies, especially the United States, have so far opposed granting this permission for fear of increasing tensions with Moscow.

Ukraine attacked a Russian Kilo-class submarine and an S-400 anti-craft missile complex near the Moscow-occupied Crimea island, according to a statement released by the General Staff.

An air defense system was created to protect the Kerch Strait Bridge, an important logistics and transportation hub for supplying supplies to the Russian army.

According to sources, the Navy suffered damage to several units of the missile force as well as four launchers of the Triumph air defense system when the Rostov-on-Don (Russian submarine) was sunk in the Sevastopol port.
