Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Saiful Islam on Wednesday said Chinmoy Krishna Das’s application was rejected because he did not have a lawyer’s letter. After this, senior Bangladesh Supreme Court lawyer and human rights activist Ravindra Ghosh went to Chittagong and submitted an application in the court for Chinmoy Krishna Das.
When Ghosh requested a preliminary hearing in the court, other lawyers opposed it, saying that Ghosh had no vakalatnama (power of attorney) to represent Chinmoy Krishna Das. After this the court rejected Das’s application.
What did Chinmay Das’s lawyer say?
Speaking to news agency ANI over phone, Ghosh said that I had applied to the Chittagong court to fix an early date for the bail hearing of Chinmay Krishna Das, but at that time around 30 lawyers appeared in the court room without permission. And tried to attack. After coming to the court room, my work was completed. They said that they are harassing me by calling me ISKCON agent, Chinmay’s agent. They call me a murderer. I have come as a lawyer. How can I become a murderer?
Next hearing will be on January 2
Actually, the hearing of this case was to be held on December 3, but on the suggestion of the prosecution, due to the absence of any lawyer of Chinmoy Krishna Das, the court postponed the hearing till January 2, 2025.
