Bringing dependent family members to the UK is banned under new visa laws that came into effect this week. According to the new visa rules, Indians and foreigners working as care workers will no longer be able to bring their families here.
The Home Ministry had already announced this law, which has come into effect from Monday. According to last year's figures, 100,000 workers in Britain worked on care visas with 120,000 dependents. It has been claimed that this step will drastically reduce the number of migrants coming to Britain and visa abuse can be dealt with.
Home Secretary James Cleverley said care workers make a vital contribution to our society by caring for our loved ones in their time of need. But we cannot remain silent when it comes to dealing with the rampant abuse of visa rules, the manipulation of our immigration system, and the extraordinary increase in the number of immigrants. It is neither fair nor reasonable to allow this situation to continue.
He said that we had promised to take action with the British people. We will not rest until we fulfill our commitment to significantly reduce the numbers. Our plan is fair and strong to protect British workers. He said talents from the world can work and study here to add values to our society and grow the economy.
These changes in visa rules have come into effect. The government is preparing to present the new rules in Parliament on Thursday. Care workers acting as sponsors for migrants must now register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The government says it will also crack down on exploitation and abuse of workers in the care sector.
