35-year-old Tamim Iqbal wrote on Facebook, “I have been away from international cricket for a long time and this gap will never end. My chapter in international cricket has ended. I had been thinking about it for some time and considering the Champions Trophy situation, I didn’t want the team to be distracted by discussions about me. For this reason, I had distanced myself from central contracts a long time ago. However, the media sometimes suggested the opposite.
He said that every cricketer has the right to decide his own future. I have taken my time in taking this decision. Now I think the time has come. Captain Nazmul Hussain requested me to return and I also spoke to the selection panel. I’m grateful that he still saw potential in me but I followed my heart.
Tamim further said, “Being out of the team before the 2023 World Cup was a shock for me.” Wherever I went, fans expressed their desire to see me back in the national team. I deeply appreciate their love and support. My son did not tell me directly but he told his mother that he wanted to see his father in the national team jersey. I’m sorry to disappoint the fans. Tamim Iqbal had also retired from international cricket in July 2023, but later changed his mind. Tamim played his last match for Bangladesh in September 2023.
