Patiala: The Pollution Control Board has issued notices to some luxury salons in Punjab for violating pollution norms and dumping hazardous waste directly into the sewage system. Confirming this, Dr. Adarshpal Wig, Chairman of the Pollution Control Board, said that show cause notices have been issued to more than 15 salons in different cities regarding irregularities. The teams of the Pollution Board have surveyed big salons/beauty parlors in Mohali, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar in the state. During this survey, information has been obtained about various causes of pollution. In which many irregularities have come to the fore. In most of the salons, it was observed that no proper method is being used to destroy the hair after cutting and the hair is either being thrown into the general garbage or going into the sewage system in the same way. Apart from this, after washing and coloring the hair, the water used in it is being drained directly into the sewage without any treatment. Even the foil paper used in the salon is not destroyed, the gloves used during work are also thrown into the general garbage.

Pollution Control Board Chairman Dr. Adarshpal Wig said that the board constantly investigates the causes of pollution. In this series, keeping an eye on new sources, first small and now micro-scale salons have been brought under the scope of investigation, where chemicals and other products are used on a large scale which cause pollution. The chairman said that violation of 'Water Act 1981' has been found mostly in salons or beauty parlors. In this regard, notice has been issued to salon owners. All of them will be made aware of the rules, then orders will be given to follow the rules. Action can also be taken if the rules are not followed next time.
