Big action, IFS officer suspended for naming lion Akbar and lioness Sita

Recently, there was a dispute in a zoo over naming a lion Akbar and a lioness Sita. After this the matter reached the Calcutta High Court. The High Court had ordered the Bengal government to change the name of the lioness and resolve the dispute. Now the Tripura government has taken major action in this matter and has suspended IFS officer Praveen Aggarwal, who named the lion Akbar and the lioness Sita.

The matter reached Calcutta High Court

The lion and lioness were recently brought to the West Bengal Safari Park from Sipahijala Zoo in Tripura. Where after a few days there was a dispute over his name and Vishwa Hindu Parishad opposed this move of the department and the matter reached the Calcutta High Court. Vishwa Hindu Parishad filed a complaint before the Calcutta High Court regarding their naming, alleging that the names (Akbar and Sita) hurt religious sentiments. Along with this he demanded that his name be changed.

IFS officer's suspension

While giving oral order to the Bengal Zoo Authority to change the names of lions and lionesses, the court wondered why controversy was being created by giving such names. Tripura Forest Secretary Avinash Kanphade said Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Agarwal was suspended on February 22 in connection with the incident.
